Maasai Guide
DAY 1

Arrival & Preparation

Arrive at Lake Natron area, meet your Maasai guides, and prepare for the climb. Briefing about safety procedures and what to expect. Overnight at campsite near the mountain base (1,800m).

Night Trek
DAY 2

Summit Attempt

Begin ascent around midnight (6-7 hour climb). Reach the summit at sunrise for breathtaking views. Explore the crater (when safe) before descending to base camp. Total trekking time: 10-12 hours.

Lake Natron
DAY 3

Lake Natron Exploration

Visit Lake Natron to see flamingo nesting sites and other birdlife. Option to visit Maasai villages or relax at camp. For those with energy, short hikes to nearby waterfalls.

Rift Valley
DAY 4

Departure

Morning game drive or cultural visit before returning to Arusha. Option to extend with safari in Ngorongoro or Tarangire.

Oldoinyo Lengai ("Mountain of God" in Maasai) is Tanzania's only active volcano and the world's only carbonatite volcano. At 2,962m, this sacred mountain offers adventurous trekkers a unique opportunity to witness volcanic activity up close while enjoying breathtaking views of Lake Natron and the Rift Valley.

Safety Notice

Oldoinyo Lengai is an active volcano - access to the crater may be restricted during periods of increased activity. The climb involves exposed sections requiring surefootedness. All treks must be accompanied by armed Maasai guides due to wildlife presence (including lions and leopards).

Wildlife & Nature

The Lengai area supports diverse wildlife including olive baboons, velvet monkeys, hyenas, lions, leopards, jackals, Grant's gazelles, impalas, and zebras. Over 350 bird species have been recorded around Lake Natron, which is East Africa's primary flamingo breeding ground.
